Wesco Motorcycle Boots Rebuilt

Image
These boots have gone many miles with The Bird and the spent a lot of days on a shop floor. Jack sent them back to Wesco for a rebuild and man did they do that. Jack sent well worn, 6 1/2 year old boots off to Wesco and the only parts of the boots that came back were the instep straps and buckles, and the part of the boot that goes up the leg. Everything below that is new. Quite impressive. Turn around was about five weeks, but UPS was very slow on the return trip.

Scottoiler Plumbing

Image
The Bird has had a Scottoiler for some time. The oiler was purchased for The Bird's predecessor, but it never worked properly on that motorcycle because Jack never found a good vacuum source. The Bird, on the other hand -- other wing? -- arrived equipped with great vacuum line to the fuel tank vapor capture system. With the Scottoiler attached to that line, the oiler works a trick. But, seems like there is often a "but." But, Jack rigged the oil supply line so that it came down from the oiler, which is mounted to the subframe, down the front side of the swingarm, and under the swingarm back to the oiler delivery tube that drips onto the rear sprocket just above the chain. For some reason, beyond Jack's or The Bird's ability to divine, the movement of the swingarm up and down kept pulling the supply line so that it bunched up under the swingarm. Every so often Jack had to pull the loops out from under the swingarm and put the slack back above the swingarm. When do

A Stand for the Lathe

Image
Waited almost three months for the stand for my lathe. It finally arrived last week, but without half the feet. Those arrived yesterday and I was able to hoist the lathe up on a chainfall hanging from a tree branch, mark the stand for drilling, lift the lathe again and drill the holes, bolt the lathe to the stand, and roll the whole unit on pipe into the shop. Got it into place and leveled today. All that's left is to finish clean up.  I've been working on a project for the grandson and when I received a message that the stand was finally coming, I put that on hold to prepare for the stand. Tomorrow, I'll try to finish the project. I will be standing at the lathe rather than sitting on a footstool on the floor and operating a lathe bolted to its shipping pallet. Finished a project on the new stand that I started on the floor: a birthday gift for my five year old grandson. Five 2015 nickels inset into a cube turned from a piece of 2" round bar.
